Elder Care Law

Elder law is the practice of law which focuses on dealing with the specific needs and challenges that face the lederly. Rather than being defined by technical legal distinctions, Elder law is defined by the client to be served. In other words, when we practice elder law we may handle a wide range of issues but we focus on a sprcific type of client -- seniors! Our elder law division can:
  • Plan an estate
  • Establish trusts for minors, college students, the disabled or any other individuals that you may wish to provide for but not make an outright gift to
  • Establish guardianships and conservatorships to give others authority to make financial, medical, and long term decisions for their aging or diabled loved ones

Many elderly individuals also face hard decisions about the legal consequences of:

  • Utilizing Medicaid or Medicare
  • Entering a nursing home
  • Applying for retirement benefits
  • Making large gifts to loved ones

For example, many people are not aware that someone who applies for Medicaid and owns a home may be forced to sell their home or reimburse the Medicaid authority for their expenses. Early, careful planning can help prevent such situations. We will help you navigate these increasingly complex and important areas of the law.
