Elder Law

What is elder law?

Elder law is the practice of law with a focus on dealing with the specific needs and challenges that face the elderly and disabled. An elder law attorney can help plan an estate or establish trusts for minors, college students, and the disabled or other individuals for whom you may want to provide, without making an outright gift. Elder law attorneys also help people establish guardianships in order to give them the authority to make financial, medical and long-term care decisions for their aging or disabled loved one. Many elder individuals also face hard decisions about the legal consequences of utilizing Medicaid planning or Medicare, entering a nursing home, asset preservation, and making large gifts to loved ones. Early, careful planning can help prevent such situations. Elder law attorneys can help clients navigate these increasingly complex and important areas of the law.
