The First 48 Hours After You Are In An Automobile Accident

  • Do not drive your vehicle if the damage has any chance of preventing you from operating it safely.
  • See a doctor or go to the emergency room if you are having any symptoms. If you do not, the insurance company may not believe you were injured in the accident!
  • Take pictures of any bruises or injuries on your body before they heal.
  • Take pictures of the damage to your vehicle, including any damage to the interior of the vehicle and any mess, such as items, glass or liquid, that may be strewn around the inside of your vehicle. These pictures may become crucial evidence of the force of the collision.
  • Take pictures of the accident scene.
  • Preserve the names, addresses, claim numbers, and phone numbers of any people you have spoken with concerning the accident. This includes the defendant, any witnesses, police officers and insurance company personnel.
  • Report the accident to your insurance company, but do not permit your statement to be recorded without first consulting with an attorney. Do not respond to any questions concerning any medical problems you may hve had prior to the accident. Make sure you are speaking to them when your mind is clear of any medication you may be taking for pain. It is preferable to speak to an attorney before you tell your insurance company the facts of the accident.
  • Do not speak to the insurance company for the person that ran into you without first consulting with an attorney.
  • If your car was towed from the scene of the accident find out the location where the vehicle was taken.
  • Call our office and we will advise you whether legal representation would be of assistance (not all car accidents require the assistance of counsel) and we will further guide you through the process.
